WASHINGTON COUNTY UPDATE - WEEK OF 9/22/24 - BY DISTRICT 9 JP BETH COGER

🏆 WASHINGTON COUNTY:  YOU WON!  Do not ever let anyone tell you that you cannot make a difference, because you can!  I want to be completely clear:  You made the difference!

How do you think we went from this (less than a month ago) 8/28/24:

“County Judge Patrick Deakins said he was satisfied with the hearing and wanted the Quorum Court to proceed with the ordinance.  "I think we're just circling the drain here," Deakins said.  Source:  https://www.nwaonline.com/news/2024/aug/28/officials-field-questions-on-washington-county/

To This 9/19/24?:

Starting at 45:54 in the video

“...just so the public can be put at ease, we've tried to take this process very slowly.  We're gaining input from the citizens.  This is a work in progress.  We understand that.  I don't think anybody has intentions to sit here tonight and try to railroad this through, which has been some of the accusations.  I'm sorry if wherever we got that insinuation that's not my intent.   I don't think it's the intent of the Court…”

It’s because you showed up, became involved, did research, contacted JPs and other elected officials.  It’s because you came and spoke at the meeting last Thursday evening. It’s because of your hard work and determination, your heartfelt and well-articulated comments and personal stories!  You got the court to vote to send this major legislative act back to committee! There’s still a lot of work to be done, so please come along for the ride.

The benefits of public involvement are clear: when citizens participate, county government works better for everyone.
